New(ish) Red Bull…

Nothing much new to see here, aside from a couple of small additions to the sponsor portfolio. The main point of interest is seeing the car with #5 on it (don’t ask me why, but I always find it interesting when a team more used to finishing at the lower end of the championship moves up into that higher-order of race numbers). Although…

… comparing the car from the studio shoot (left) with the one unveiled at Jerez (right), it’s mildly interesting (if you’re me) to note that one car features Red Bull Cola branding on the rear wing endplate, while the other is an ordinary Red Bull can. Could it be that Vettel (#5) and Webber (#6) will be carrying different branding from one-another this season? Or is it simply a change of heart from management, taken after the studio shoot had been done? Does anyone actually care?

Assuming the same practice is adopted as late-2009, Red Bull Cola are on one side, and Red Bull Energy Drink are on the other side of the rear wing endplate.

But no, it doesn’t really matter, and its disappointing they don’t try something different with their liveries.

  2. Seb Patrick says:

Huh. This shows how much attention I was paying to liveries in the back end of last season! What an odd practice. You’d think maybe having one brand on the RB, and the other on the Toro Rosso, would make more sense…

  3. Ned says:

Yeah I never noticed they were using both cans on the same rear wing either! For the record I’d say the regular Red Bull can looks better, its colours suit the rest of the car better.

I like the Red Bull livery, it’s one of my favourite liveries on the grid. BUT it does get a bit boring when they use it season after season after season… I believe 2010 will be the 6th consecutive season an almost identical design. Perhaps Red Bull employ the same unimaginative livery designer as Toyota did?!

Well, now that we’ve seen all the new liveries- excluding Campos, USF1 and Stefan GP, whose liveries I fear we may never see- here is my ranking of the new designs so far, from best to worst:

    1st- Renault
    2nd- Mercedes
3rd- Ferrari (technichally not a new livery, but it’s as big a change as you’ll ever see Ferrari make)
    4th- Virgin
    5th- Lotus
6th- Sauber (I hope they will come up with a proper livery by Bahrain… but then if Brawn couldn’t find a title sponsor, what hope do Sauber have?)

  4. Peter Tabmow says:

Seb, I think you’re being blasé about the Red Bull because you’re still besotted with the Lotus in BRG and yellow…

  5. Seb Patrick says:

    Haha, it’s possible!

I do quite like the RBR livery, actually – it’s just, as Ned says, that it’s easy to tire of when they do the same thing year on year. So there’s not much new to say about it…!

  6. .Kay says:

I like how the TOTAL sponsor on the side of the front wing isn’t red on the Red Bull, but it is on the Renault.

It’s a great looking car even though we’ve seen this design since 2006.
Although nobody usually complains about Ferrari.

  7. Dahie says:

Well even though, the livery didn’t change much since 2005, they tweaked the bugs out and optimized it for their respective car. I think it works, not the über-stunner, but hey, not every car has to be the most exciting, in this respect, keep the designs that work and git rid of the horrible ones instead. So say we all!
