“Lotus” Renault Launch Livery

Due to my continuing commitment to covering all that’s new in liveries of F1, I’m obliged to post this one. But I’m sure I don’t need to tell you right now that I’m not happy about it. Of course, we’ve seen it in photoshopped form before, but here are some actual photos of an actual “Lotus” Renault:

The worst part is that they can’t even get it right. Black-and-gold should be an impossible colour scheme to mess up, but trust the team that brought you the ING monstrosity to do just that, with red wing endplates at front and rear that just completely muck up the entire thing. Other than that, it’d be quite nice (although I’d love to see the team actually have to try and justify using an old tobacco livery considering all the farrago over Ferrari last year), but because of what it represents, it actually makes me actively annoyed just to look at it.

Having been born in 1989 and ‘only’ been following the F1 from 1994 (But understanding it better when i got older) I missed the ’70s and ’80s styling of formula 1 cars.

Ofcource i’ve been looking up on older cars and liverys, the word that Renault ‘Lotus’ was going to have the JPS colors was an exiting prospect.

Seeing the artwork brought so much wrong emotions up… RED ENDPLATES?! WHYYYY…

So i held hope, they wouldn’t truely be THAT stupid to ruin the entire car by actually including the red endplates…but then i remembered they did the exact same thing in 2010, and now we’re here…staring at our worst nightmares.

I got to say: Team Lotus 1, Renault Lotus 0

On the respect that Ferrari got bollocked for including a white part on their engine cover that resembeled a Malboro packet and now there’s a team copying an old cigarette color i am very simple:

If they allow this, they clearly got the balances completely shifted. Ferrari got treated very badly for it and now they just gone one step up.

If they do allow it tough, Let ferrari have their white square back.

    Just my two cents.

PS: I’ve stumbled upon this site in google by searching for an old website i used to visit having all the liverys of cars drawn like you have in the top 25, do you know where i can find that website or one simmilar?

PS2: Ever going to do a top 25 worst?

PS3: Keep up the good work!

Such a poor attempt at what should be one of the best liveries of the season. Pretty rubbish actually.

And yes, you must do a top25 worst liveries!

      • Tim says:

…a top 25 worst liveries, including this one! Dear, oh dear. This is just so amateurish – the red end plates completely contrasting with the neat, classy black and gold. But it’s the oversized Lotus badge that’s annoying me most. Talk about trying to make a point…

By the way, is this the 2011 car or again the 2011 livery on the 2010 car?

    • bosyber says:

The latter – it is the exact same car they showed a few weeks ago, except for a few small changes in livery, like that Union flag.

    just saw this: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/black-and-gold/

… seems the JPS link of that livery might have activated Canadian Health association to come and look at it in Canada – will Lotus Renault argue it is clearly different from the classic, and now forbidden advertisement, livery due to those red endplates :-p

I agree with everyone on here, what is it with the red end plates?? You would think somebody at Total would be thinking “you know what, our red end plates really ruin that scheme”. Black text on gold would have made that so much better, then again, it could be their get out of jail card for the Canadian race because the JPS livery didn’t have them?

The livery does seem to fit a bit nicer on the R31, or maybe it is just painted better – the lines on the sidepods certainly seem to hug it a bit nicer, and the gold rim around the nose is on top of it instead – haven’t seen a front/top shot though to judge that – to me – most flawed area. In the sun the red is still red.
