This site has moved!

January 5, 2012

Hello! As of January 2012, this site no longer lives at The existing posts have been left here so as not to break incoming links from elsewhere, but if you want to continue reading F1 Colours we would be grateful if you could follow us over to, where you’ll find all the latest posts and updates (seriously, there’s like five more years’ worth and counting).

That address again, in nice big letters:

Thank you!

F1 Colours on Twitter!

February 8, 2011

I really should have thought to do this at the start of the livery launch season, but nevertheless – if you’re Twitter-inclined, you can now follow the site at @f1colours. As well as keeping you informed about when the site’s updated, I’ll also use the account to post smaller livery and sponsorship-related comments throughout the season that might not necessarily warrant a full post. And I look forward to chatting with any site regulars who also use the site!

A lick of paint for F1C; HRT to launch on Thurs

March 3, 2010

Hello folks. Well, it’s been quiet around here lately, with the bulk of car launches taken care of – just the two as-yet-unconfirmed final slots on the grid to go, and not even a glimpse of a car during testing. There’s news on the horizon, though – USF1 sadly (or otherwise) look almost certain not to appear this year, so either we’ll have a 24-car grid (disappointing for those of us who were looking forward to 26 for the first time since the 1995 Monaco GP), or Stefan GP will take their place. Meanwhile, having been renamed Hispania Racing Team – or, no giggles at the back, “HRT” for short – it looks likely that the former Campos Meta will launch their new livery tomorrow (Thursday), so we’ll be reporting on that when we see it.

In the meantime, you may notice that – for the first time since launching the site in early ’07 – F1 Colours has a new look! I felt it was about time for a bit of a change as we go into our fourth season of livery discussion, so I hope you like the new design and logo. Keep your eyes on the site, too, as although we’ve almost run out of new cars to unveil, there’ll still be plenty of livery-related chat throughout the 2010 season, including some more historical features and guest contributions!

Teams to launch 2010 cars simultaneously?

December 12, 2009

Well, if this ends up being true, it’ll rather take away the fun of that January/February time (when this site is the busiest!) of looking forward to each individual launch and posting about it. However, I suspect we’ll still get hints and glimpses of various colour schemes in the build-up to such an event if it does happen (for example, the planned “launch” of Virgin Racing on Tuesday, even if it’s not a car launch, should give us an idea), and this site will continue to keep abreast of any such developments as and when they happen.

Furthermore, there’ll be more article-length content on the way in the meantime – I’ve got my first guest contribution to post shortly, and I’m also planning to do a couple of posts speculating on possible colour schemes for all 13 teams on the 2010 grid. So keep watching!

(and while we’re on the subject of F1 news, the new points system? I heartily approve – with this many teams on the grid, expanding the rewards down to 10th place makes perfect sense. Next season already looks cracking, I can’t wait!)

Site update…

August 24, 2009

Hello, loyal readers (and those of you who keep stumbling across my Top 25 Liveries articles through Google searches). Since I’ve had a few comments asking about it recently, I thought I’d provide a quick update to let you know the site isn’t dead. Obviously there’s been no real livery news to report since the season started (that Brawn “rumour” turned out to be somewhat bunkum, didn’t it?), so that’s partly why things have been quiet – also, I’ve been busy with various other bits of work, some of which I actually get paid for, so naturally they’ve taken priority! But rest assured, the site is not going away – if nothing else, the 2010 launch season promises to be the most exciting for years – and there will be updates before next season, too. I’ve started work on the next article for the site, and it’ll be the first of my long-awaited “livery histories” series, focusing on Jordan. So keep an eye out (the RSS feed is the best way of finding out when the site kicks back into life), and it’ll hopefully show up some time in September!

Fantasy Liveries!

February 19, 2009

Just dropping in again to say hello, and yes, I’ll be doing another quick roundup of the remaining ’09 cars shortly. However, I also just wanted to pick up on a suggestion left by “Aly” in the comments to the most recent post :

Also what about a fantasy livery section? See if us fans can do a better job than the heroes who’s jobs we would all love?

I think this is a splendid idea, not least because it means I can pass off other people’s work as original content! So, here’s the thing – if you’ve got any fantasy F1 liveries you’ve created and you’d like to show ’em off, then send them in to me at They can be rendered artwork, modifications to existing pictures, lineart, skins you’ve made for various racing games… anything, really (but please, if you’ve modified someone else’s creation, please give the necessary credit where possible. I won’t publish anything unless I’ve got at least one author’s name to put on it). I’ll post what I get here (with commentary if I’m feeling particularly cruel), unless I get too many, in which case I’ll be selective. But yeah, show me what you’ve got, and I’ll let you all chew on ’em among yourselves – and I might even throw in one or two of my own, as well…

Hello? Anyone out there?

January 19, 2009

Alright, so I probably lost about 95% of my loyal readership by being rubbish and not updating since last spring – however, I just thought I’d pop up to say that yes, Formula One Colours will be coming back shortly! I didn’t get things sorted in time to start covering the launches season (my plan was to do a big re-introductory post, but I haven’t got around to it so am just doing this brief one now instead), but the first few launched featured, predictably enough, near-identical liveries to last year anyway, what with being Toyota, Ferrari and McLaren. Nevertheless, expect some updates in the next couple of days, rounding up everything I’ve missed so far (including the new Renault livery).

Apologies once more that the site basically died a death last year. I’ve had my ups and downs with F1 over the past six months or so, and I’m not hugely enthused by the new regulations and the ugly, ugly new cars – but I can’t tear myself away, and for as long as I’m watching the sport, I’ll be paying attention to liveries and writing about them.

So if you’re so inclined, spread the word, and let’s get chatting about car colours once more!
